Lisa's Story:
Getting closer to 50, overweight, watching my own mother becoming unhealthier every day, and watching my daughter Vanessa put on weight? I decided things had to change. The only way to do that without becoming a “nag” was to lead by example!
During April last year there was Bendigo Community Health’s “Biggest Winner” challenge which peaked my curiosity. So I signed up. This was the start of my transformation. Next was taking up one of the offers of a weekly boot camp training session with “It’s Her Gym”. There was no going back.
I was so impressed with all the programs on offer that I suggested to my daughter that we give it a go. Between us we have lost 30kg, changed our way of eating and our lifestyle. We now grab any chance to go hiking, bike riding and even things we have a fear of - like flying! Our success is not down to one thing in particular but rather, many.
Vanessa and I encourage, and sometimes, even compete with each other. This has actually made us closer as mother/daughter. All the other gymmers are so friendly and encouraging. The programs at the gym change every day so we don’t get bored and if we slack off at training, one of the staff gives us a kick up the butt! The staff have a soft side too, always there for a bit of advice on training or to tweak our eating habits.
We put our success over the last 10 months down to enjoyment, setting goals (small at first), having a training buddy, determination, perseverance (there were times when we weren’t getting results but our commitment to job never faltered) and a good network of people who have similar interests.
Vanessa’s determination and healthy eating have seen her go from a 69kgs to a very strong and fit 53kgs. I’m so proud of you Nessy! I have gone from a size 12 to a size 8. Sue tells me all the time how great my legs are!
We are so looking forward to the rest of our lives now knowing we can achieve most things that we set out to do. Our journey is still continuing and it looks so wonderful.
Thanks to everyone at “It’s Her Gym”; staff and clients. You have all helped us reach our goals even if you didn't realise it. xxx
